What is the cost for tours?
Terrace Hill tours cost $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 6-12. Tours are free for children ages 5 and under. We accept cash or check only.
Where is parking available at Terrace Hill?
Street parking and handicapped parking is available on Forest Drive, which is on the west side of the property. Motor coach and bus parking is available in the same area. Additional parking is located in the Terrace Hill parking lot at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Forest Drive. No parking is available on the Terrace Hill grounds. What is the policy for educational/school group tours?
Terrace Hill is living history for children, and a great educational opportunity for educators. Until further notice, tours are not available for school classroom groups due to social distancing measures and our current tour policies. Please read our Visit page for complete details.
Are tours accessible for wheelchairs?
Yes, Terrace Hill tours can be modified to be accessible to guests with wheelchairs. If you are a person with a disability who requires special assistance, please call 515-242-5841 in advance of your visit.
Why can’t people walk around the grounds at Terrace Hill?
Access to Terrace Hill and its grounds is available by guided tour only. Self-guided tours of the residence and grounds are not permitted. All visitors are to check in at the carriage house prior to the start of each tour.
Can I schedule a group tour at Terrace Hill?
At this time, all tours are limited to 6 or fewer visitors, and all visitors must live in the same household. To schedule a tour, please call 515-282-5841. All tour reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled tour time. Please read our Visit page for complete details.

Are photographs allowed during the tour?
Yes, non-flash photography is allowed during the tour.
How long does the tour last?
The tour lasts approximately one hour. It consists of a 15 minute introductory video in the Carriage House and a 45 minute tour of the residence. Weather permitting, the gardens will be included in the tour.

Can Terrace Hill be rented for company events?
Yes, the Terrace Hill residence and gardens are available for established organizations to rent for events. Please note the use of Terrace Hill for fundraising events is strictly prohibited. To inquire about renting Terrace Hill for your organization’s event, please contact the Terrace Hill Event Coordinator at 515-281-7205.
Can Terrace Hill be rented for private events?
No, Terrace Hill cannot be rented for private events, including (but not limited to) weddings and birthday parties.

How do I get tickets for events at Terrace Hill?
All events listed on our Events Calendar are open to the public! Some events are free, while others require the purchase of a ticket. All details will be listed on the event’s page, linked on the Terrace Hill Event Calendar. For events that do require a ticket to be purchased, we use Eventbrite for ticket sales. Why is there no flag flying on top of the tower at Terrace Hill?
Over the years, the weight of the flags displayed at the top of the Terrace Hill tower created damage and leaking in the roof. In 2015, a solution was reached when the current flag pavilion was constructed near the west edge of the Terrace Hill property. The flag pavilion marks the pedestrian entrance for Terrace Hill’s visitors.
Do you allow professional photography sessions at Terrace Hill?
No, professional photography sessions (such as graduation photos, family photos, and wedding photos) are not permitted at Terrace Hill.
What is the usage policy for images on the Terrace Hill website?
Photos on the Terrace Hill website may be used for non-commercial purposes. Please credit Terrace Hill when sharing images from the Terrace Hill website.
Does Terrace Hill accept donations of antiques?
The Terrace Hill Curatorial Committee reviews all donation offers of antiques to Terrace Hill. Please note that due to storage limitations, Terrace Hill cannot accept every item that is offered.
